| Mary Kubichek, Attorney General CLE - Intermediate Friday, February 17, 2006 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Central Time This intermediate course is designed to help paralegals find and correctly cite the law. The course reviews "what is in what book" and describes how to cite primary and secondary sources according to Blue Book, Uniform System of Citation. Participants will learn to identify which sources are used for what task, will become familiar with citing primary and secondary sources, and they will be able to correctly cite subsequent history. It is recommended participants have a copy of the 18th edition of the Blue Book, Uniform System of Citation, available during this program. Session topics include: Basic tools of legal research Statutes Primary and secondary sources Legal Periodicals Mandatory and persuasive sources Regional Reporters parallel citations Rules for citing case names Subsequent History Ms. Kubichek is director of the Casper College Paralegal Program of the University of Wyoming in Casper where she teaches courses in law and communication. She is also a Chadron State College, Chadron, NE, instructor in school law for school administrators, and has spoken and published extensively on a wide variety of legal and paralegal issues. She began her legal career as a paralegal in Omaha, NE, and worked as an attorney for a number of firms and the Department of Justice before joining Casper College in 1988. She is a former member of NALAs CLA Specialty Task Force, and the NALA Certifying Board. She is the AAfPE (American Association for Paralegal Education) representative to the ABA Approval Commission for Certificate Program. |
